ABOUT OUR SCHOOL SUPPLY PROGRAM
Since 1996, we’ve been providing school supplies—notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, and pencil sharpeners (and maybe some lollipops and small toys!)—to children in remote mountain schools all around Copán, Honduras.
We visit each classroom four times per year, and through this program, families in deep poverty—many surviving on just $1.25 USD per day—have been able to send their children at least to elementary school.
Join us as a volunteer: your help will have a direct impact on bringing the next generation out of extreme poverty and on toward success.
ABOUT THE CHIP PROGRAM
The Children’s Health Identification Program (CHIP) monitors the growth, development, and well-being of the children we serve and the community they live in. CHIP also allows us to identify children with medical or developmental difficulties, and refer them along to our clinic for evaluation and treatment.
Our volunteers travel to village schools and photograph, weigh, measure, and fill out a short questionnaire for each child. We’ll compare this info with previous surveys to pinpoint problems, trends, and program effectiveness.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Our education volunteer program is open to volunteers of any age and background (those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). We always have a translator or two with us.
You’re invited to volunteer for one week or longer, and you’ll be housed at Hacienda la Esperanza, our award-winning B&B on the same grounds as the clinic.
